Unlike IQ Emotional Intelligence Can Be Learned
Our View Of Emotional Intelligence
The unconscious parts of our brains guide us through life in many positive ways. They can also create chaos. This can express itself in arguments, dis-empowerment, fears, avoidance and unexpected behaviors that do not work well for everybody involved.
Emotions we don't understand control us. We can change that by building our understanding of emotions, our emotional awareness and our emotional skills. Our brain plasticity allows this.
We can also choose as to how deep we take our exploration and skill building.
The first step is usually getting a better understanding of our emotions and straightforward strategies for working with them (typically called mindfulness).
The next broad step is to connect more closely with our emotions and their sources and what they are expressing. This step works on building continual awareness of the impact of our emotions so that we enjoy learning from them. Curiosity and acceptance are key steps.
The following step is to dig in to very deep parts of our brains for access to past experiences that have left their mark and still express themselves, in ways we may not want them to, in our present.
